We are asked all the time about rev limiter options for the Mallory and Vertex magnetos. Many customers think they need to move away from their mag and go to electronic style ignitions so they can use 2-step rev limiters on the starting line. From top-end only rev limiters, to 2-step capable setups with RPM activated switches, ETC Rev Limiters has it covered! These rev limiters are terrific. RPM limiting is provided by an adjustable push wheel switch which selects the RPM in increments of 100 from 2,000 to 9,900 RPM. There's no back firing when against the limiter. The unit simply absorbs the energy of the mag while a controlled sequence keeps the motor from revving higher than the preset. These limiters are perfectly safe for use on supercharged methanol applications. No destructive misfiring results from these units. They are smooth! This unit is two rev limiters in one box. The first limiter can be set and used as a 2-step to limit starting line engine speed. It can be activated by supplying +12V to the yellow wire (transbrake circuit). The included RPM activated switch can be used to control a shifter, shift-light, fuel system lean-out, etc. The 2nd limiter is for top-end use to prevent engine overspeed due to broken drive train, cavitation, missed shift, or a heavy foot in the water box. As we began to upgrade standard points style Mallory and Vertex magnetos to the highest levels in the industry, one problem became clear: the rev limiters available couldn't handle the output. Now a "Tach Signal Output" wire is available as an extra option. This new white wire will deliver a signal any tachometer or intelligent shift light will understand. See option below.
